I heard today that Steve Jobs is taking his third medical leave!! So he can focus on his health. Is this the end of the Apple empire? The stock exchange of Frankfurt responded with a share value which was 7% lower! I am wondering what the share value will be tomorrow at the NYE

Jobs is known for using red herrings. I would take it for nothing else than that. I still think that Apple is going to release a tablet first, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has the ability to read ebooks (aka PDFs) in some sort of long lasting, low power mode. But whatever it is, it won't be e-ink and I doubt it will compete in the eReader space. At least not yet, and not in the form that it will take upon its launch.

David, I thought the same thing. Jobs is showing a bias against people who read - he doesn't see a market big enough to consider a dedicated device worthwhile - and why not, Apple is not Amazon. In the end it's not the hardware but the service, the solution, which Apple can't deliver.

so according to Jobs the ipod should be an utter failure because it is a single-purpose device and "Because I think people just probably aren’t willing to pay for a dedicated device."
